I have been making these "Marquee" paintings over the past two years. Here is the accompanying text:

Tyler Matthew Oyer’s ongoing series of “marquee” dot and text paintings are documents of his research into the compositions of cultural narratives and supplements to his live performances. Each statement is extracted from existing theatre scripts, film dialogue, song lyrics and literature- the popular writings that continue to influence structures of contemporary communication and thought. Oyer’s interests in the complex constructions of material and immaterial value are played out in these works; the resulting image functions like a hand painted sign of some hierarchical truism, or an abstracted marquee for a playful, fleeing promise.
