I cannot watch any more news programs regarding gun safety reform... 

the constant referral to the "mentally ill" and the "criminal" by Mr. NRA President (and others) only further displaces the actual issues embedded in what we defend as our "freedoms"; GUN VIOLENCE. The emphasis on institutionalizing the "psychos" and incarcerating the "drug-dealing" criminals (really, Mr. NRA President?) only propels our disturbing history of (mis/over)categorizing mental health and keeping our prison populations the highest in the world (=money for the rich-guy-corporations that now own our many privatized prisons).

It is difficult to understand how so many in our nation support wars in the Middle East (or anywhere for that matter), opposing a corrupt leader and the violent, oppressive societies they control, but fail to recognize the corruptions of our domestic behaviors in a similar light.

This is not a matter of preservationist patriotism, it is a call for change. Our nation has had many dark days, months, years and, as a result, altered laws that allowed many horrific actions to occur. An alteration to mindset and in behavior, over time, can actually do great things to a society if we act now, admit our wrongs and embrace change.
